Excerpt from the examination regulations:

Every dog owner can take an exam with every dog. The dog must have reached the age of 12 months on the day of the test. Proof of liability insurance and vaccination certificate including the dog's chip number and proof of registration must be presented before the test.

1. During the test, the dog owner must provide evidence that he has a
Expertise lecture given either by Dogaudit or by
ÖKV recognized persons took part. Alternatively
are according to the respective dog-keeping regulations of the state governments
mandatory certificates of competence recognized. The lecture must do the following
include:

  • Development phases of the dog
  • Diet and care of the dog
  • Principles of animal welfare
  • Learning behavior of the dog
  • Expressive behavior of the dog
  • Conduct of the dog owner towards society
  • Reference to vaccinations, deworming, health aspects
  • "Dog on the road"
  • Regulations of the dog ownership laws - tailored to the respective federal state

2. Verification of impartiality
3. Examination of simple obedience exercises in an outdoor area or in a suitable hall.
4th part of the examination in traffic

  • For legal and security reasons, the check (of an administrative nature, eg chip no. Height at the withers ...) must be carried out in a neutral, non-public place.
  • Each dog is to be presented individually.
  • The dogs are to be kept on a leash (lead, up to 2 m in length). The leash must be kept slack. The dog can be led to the left or right of the human partner
  • The dog is led by a group of at least 4 people who are about 3 meters apart.
  • The chip control, which is carried out by a stranger, is another component of the impartiality test.
  • The dog owner puts an animal protection-compliant muzzle on the dog on a leash and walks with him a distance of approx. 10 meters.

Exercise Requirements

Usually the dog is led on the left side of the dog owner, but may also be led on the right side. Each individual exercise begins and ends with the dog sitting or standing quietly on the respective side of the body next to its dog owner. This position is referred to as the basic position in the following. In the basic position, the dog owner stands in a relaxed posture. The final basic position from the previous exercise can be used as the starting basic position for the following exercise. The examiner gives the instruction at the beginning of an exercise. Everything else, such as turns, stops, changing pace, etc., is carried out without instruction from the examiner. Upon request, the dog owner can obtain instructions from the event manager.
The dog owner is free to confirm the dog during the test (e.g. verbal praise and body contact, food or motivational objects are not allowed).
In the group, the dog owner and his dog must walk around a person clockwise and counterclockwise. Audible and visual signals can be given to carry out the exercises. The dog owner can freely choose the audio and visual signals, but the same symbols must always be given for the same explanations. The words given below are to be seen as recommendations.
All animal welfare-compliant collars and chest harnesses are permitted. If a collar is used, it must fit loosely, whereby it must be ensured that the dog cannot slip out.

Before starting the obedience exercises, the dog handler has to announce whether or which of the optional exercises to be performed ("following without a leash" and "running free with calling up") he would like to show.

Audio sign: e.g. "foot"

Two dog owners present themselves to the examiner with their dogs at a distance of at least 5 m and are greeted by him. One dog owner then leads his dog to the storage location, the second dog owner leads his dog to the specified starting point for the beginning of the leash. In response to a signal, the dog on a leash should follow its dog owner relaxed on a straight line of at least 30 meters. The assessment of the leash-guiding ability begins with this signal. The further process is up to the dog owner, but must include at least one U-turn, at least one change of direction to the left and at least one change of direction to the right, as well as a change of pace. The pace change must include a running step and a slow step. During the exercise, the dog owner has to stand still once, whereby the dog has to assume the basic position. At the end of the exercise, the dog handler goes with his dog in a group of at least four people on the instruction of the examiner. Walking through the group, whose people move around the stand and are set up at a distance of approx. 3 m, must be shown in leash. The dog owner must deal with his dog one person on the right and one person on the left (e.g. in the form of an 8) and stop at least once in the group. The examiner is free to request a repetition. Desired execution: The dog should happily follow his dog owner on a loose leash on the side he is used to. Attentive behavior is desirable. When stopping, the dog should take the basic position on its own and behave calmly, a signal is allowed.

Audio symbols, for example, "foot".

This section does not have to be completed. If the team does not show the exercise “Follow freely” and all other parts of the exam are performed without errors, the exam DESPOLTLY cannot be completed with “distinction”. After leaving the group, the dog owner briefly assumes the basic position. At the order of the examiner, the dog is leashed in the basic position. The dog owner hangs the leash around his shoulder or puts it in his pocket. Now the free follow-up begins. The dog should freely follow his dog owner for approx. 30 meters. After approx. 30 meters the dog owner stops, the dog assumes the usual basic position and is leashed again. 14 Desired version: The dog should happily walk along on the side of the dog owner's body that he is used to. Attentive behavior is desirable. When stopping, the dog should take the basic position independently and behave calmly - a signal is allowed. If the dog moves more than 3 meters away from the dog owner and does not come back to the dog owner after five signals, the test is aborted. Sitting exercise (10 points) Audio signals, eg “Sitting” From the basic position, the dog owner takes a few steps with his dog on a leash, stops and gives his dog a signal to sit down. Once the dog has taken the position, the dog owner puts the leash on the floor and takes at least 10 steps away from the dog, turns around and goes back to his dog. Desired execution: The dog should take the position in response to a signal and behave calmly in the position. If the dog changes position without moving away from the place where it is seated, the exercise is devalued with at least 3 points. If he leaves the drop-off location, the entire section is rated with 0 points.

Audio symbols e.g. "Place" - "Here" - "Foot"

From the basic position, the dog owner walks a few meters with his leashed dog, stops and gives the dog a signal to lie down. If the dog has taken the position, the dog is leashed and the dog owner moves approx. 10 paces away from the dog, turns around and calls him to him on a signal from the examiner. The dog should come reliably to the dog owner and calmly let himself be leashed. A chair or a final basic position is not required. Incorrect execution: If the dog changes the instructed position to sitting or standing, but remains in the instructed place, the section will be devalued with at least 3 points. If the dog runs after the handler before the signal to approach, the section is devalued by 10 points. If the dog does not come to the dog owner after a maximum of 5 signals, the test is aborted.

Audio signals e.g. "place - stay"

The dog is led to the storage area on a leash. Before starting the "sitting exercise" of the second dog, the dog is brought into the position at a designated location with a signal to lie down. When the dog has taken the position, the dog owner remains standing next to the dog, who is on a loose leash, while the second dog owner demonstrates the test sections with his dog. Desired execution: The dog lies calmly in its position. If he leaves the lying position, but stays calm with the dog owner on a loose leash, the section is devalued by 5 points. If the dog does not stay calmly with the dog owner and tries to evade the dog owner's influence, the section will be devalued with 15 points. If the dog does not assume the lying position at the beginning of the exercise, the exercise is rated 0. Free running with calling (20 points) This section does not have to be completed. After completing the previous sections, a team will leave the demonstration site. The remaining dog is leashed and allowed to run free. When the dog is approx. 10 meters away from the dog owner, it receives a signal to come closer. Desired behavior: The dog happily comes to the dog owner and lets himself be leashed again. If the dog does not come to the dog owner after the 5th signal, the test is aborted.

  • Encounter with a group of people - compulsory

At the instruction of the examiner, the dog handler walks a designated section of the street on the sidewalk with his dog on a leash. The examiner follows the team at a reasonable distance. The dog should follow the dog owner relaxed on a loose leash. The dog must behave neutrally towards pedestrians and vehicles. On his way, the dog owner is overtaken by a passing passer-by (contract person). The dog has to be neutral. Dog owner and dog go on through a relaxed group of at least 6 people, in which one person speaks to the dog owner and greets them in a friendly manner with a hand. The dog should remain calm during the short conversation. The dog handler is happy to give a corresponding signal (e.g. for sitting down or lying down). Encounter with cyclists - compulsory The leashed dog walks along a path with its dog owner and is first overtaken by a cyclist from behind. At a great distance, the cyclist turns and comes towards the dog owner and dog. The dog on a leash has to be neutral towards the cyclist.

  • Encounter with cars - compulsory

The dog owner walks past several cars with his dog on a leash. One of the vehicles is started. Another car slams a door. While the human-dog team is moving on, a car stops next to them, the window is opened and the dog owner is asked for information. The dog has to wait quietly (sitting down or lying down at the signal is allowed). The dog has to be calm and neutral towards cars. It is important in this exercise that the dog does not jump on the car and cause damage or endanger itself and others. Encounter with jogger or inline scater - compulsory The dog owner walks along a quiet path with his dog on a leash. The team is overtaken by a jogger without slowing down. Once the jogger has moved away, he comes towards the human-dog team again and walks past them without reducing their speed. The dog does not have to walk correctly on the foot, should stand near the handler with a loose leash, but must not bother the person overtaking or oncoming. The dog is allowed to show interest without rushing towards the person. It is permitted for the dog owner to stand still and instruct the dog to rest during the encounter. An inline skater can also be used instead of the jogger.

  • Encounter with other dogs - compulsory

When overtaking and approaching another dog with a dog owner, the dog must behave neutrally. A minimum distance of 5 meters must be maintained. It is permitted for the dog owner to stand still and instruct the dog to rest during the encounter. Additional verification options, of which at least one and a maximum of two encounters must be completed in coordination with the dog owner, taking into account the local conditions:

  • Behavior of the dog left alone on a leash for a short time in traffic, behavior towards animals and people (muzzle required)
  • Encounter with strollers
  • Encounter with horses and riders
  • Meeting people with walking aids
  • Using public transport (muzzle required)
  • Driving with an elevator in which other people are also (muzzle required)
  • Encounter with people with no alternative, e.g. construction site
  • Crossing a park with a children's or ball playground (muzzle required)
  • Behavior in the dog zone In these alternative sections, analogous to the mandatory sections, both neutral behavior on the part of the dog and responsible behavior on the part of the dog owner are required.
