EXHIBITIONS IN THE ÖRC

As part of an exhibition, our retrievers are presented in the exhibition ring. Experienced FCI form judges from home and abroad then judge the dogs presented. This form value assessment also gives a more or less strong recommendation for breeding. Exhibitions therefore not only have the purpose of a beauty competition, they also determine to a certain extent the future quality of our retrievers.

Another function of the shows is to be able to see dogs of one breed by age group in direct comparison with one another. For several years now, the ÖRC has made the descriptions of all retrievers presented at ÖRC special exhibitions available on the ÖRC website at www.retrieverclub.at. In 2006, in cooperation with the ÖKV, a new computer system was developed to record the ratings, which now enables us to publish parent animals and breeders of the dogs presented.

By studying the various show evaluations of the individual dogs, the breeder has the opportunity to find suitable breeding partners for his retrievers and thus to improve the offspring. Obviously, form rating is just one of many components that contribute to retriever breeding. The selection is always based on health, character and form value.

Socially, dog shows are good opportunities to exchange experiences with like-minded people. We also keep seeing interesting dogs from abroad that could be an asset to domestic breeding. Last but not least, another way to make contacts - in the interests of our retrievers.
