Val Burns (GB) - Kennel ABNALLS

I owned my first Golden in 1976, and exhibited at our local shows. Became seriously interested in showing and breeding, and in 1978 obtained my foundation bitch from Davern kennels. In the same year we were granted our affix "Abnalls".

"Abnalls" is not just a show kennel, as my husband Roy also has Field Trial goldens, and has bred/owned 2 FT Ch's and more recently the first Golden for more than a decade to receive an award in the IGL Retriever Championship.

I have bred 3 CC winners, 3 Res CC winners and 2 JW winners and all our Goldens have their KC Stud book numbers.

In 1998 my Sh Ch Westley Alexandra of Abnalls was top winning bitch in the UK. She is now retired from the showring having accumulated 9 CC's 6 of them with BOB and 10 Res CC's. I am currently campaigning her grand daughter and great grand daughter.

Very few litters are bred here, as we only breed a litter when we wish to keep a puppy ourselves.

I first awarded CC's in 1989 and have since judged extensively in the UK and Europe.

I am really looking forward to visiting your country, and judging at your show.

Jim und Elise Nolan (GB) - Kennel VEYATIE

In 1964 we purchased our first Labrador, bred from a yellow Scottish bitch mated to Ch Braeduke Joyful, a strongly built powerful dog, short coupled with a rather strong masculine expression. Too strong for some but he was a great working dog as well as a show dog and his trainer in Scotland where he lived for a while said he was the best worker to come to his kennel.

Our first Labrador, Braejoy Nightingale, sired our Ch Glendale Penny, gun-trained by Jim together with other Veyatie Labradors for both work and show. Back in the mid-60s a great many British Labradors were dual purpose. Eventually it became obvious that to do well in either work or show we had to concentrate and we chose the show side.

Over the years our involvement in Labradors has been extensive with Elise serving as 9 years as Secretary/Treasurer of the Labrador Club of Scotland, with Jim as a Committee Member for approximately 30 years, both retiring from active involvement with the club in the year 2001. Elise had also been Year Book Editor with Jim producing the modern-style book for some 5 years thus bringing the club into line with the leading British Club, the Labrador Ret. Club. We also were instrumental in setting up a Web page for the club, the first Labrador Club in the United Kingdom to do so.

Showing all around Great Britain, as well as holding down a full-time job and eventually for 15 years operating a modern Boarding Kennel, raising two children, is very demanding and in our case we only showed if family life was not too disrupted. Our kennel is usually in the awards at Championship Shows, with many of our dogs gaining Challenge Certificates over the years.

Among our well-known Labradors are Philippine Ch Veyatie Driving Along, and his black top-winning sister, Veyatie Driving Miss Daisy, having won 2 Reserve CCs and been Best of Breed at the Labrador Club of Scotland Open Show on more than one occasion as well as Best Opposite Sex on other occasions. Daisy, now nearly 9 was usually placed at Championship Shows throughout Great Britain.

Veyatie Melody Maker (Reserve CC winner) Daisy’s dam, also produced American Champion Veyatie Barra who is sired some excellent stock over in California, and Veyatie Rock n` Roll  winner of 1 CC  and European Champion 1998. Multi Champion Veyatie Proper Charlie (out of a half-sister of Melody) a stalwart of Jeff and Mariette Verrees van Hoof’s kennel in Belgium, who are winning well with their latest Veyatie Peregrine, a Luxembourg Champion. Our own Veyatie Paddywack was a great favourite of our family and he also won 1 CC.

We are both Kennel Club approved Judges at Championship Show level for Labrador Retrievers. Jim also judges all Gundogs at Open Show level. We have judged Labradors in the following countries:
Great Britain:
The Labrador Retriever Club, The Yellow Labrador Ret Club, The Labrador Club of Scotland, The Midland Counties Lab. Ret. Club, as well as most of the other Labrador Breed Clubs, and many General Championship Shows, such as Windsor, SKC., United Ret., etc., and of course Jim judged 300 Labrador bitches at Crufts, 2006.

U.S.A.:
Potomac Labrador Club, Golden Gate Lab.Club, Mid Jersey Lab. Club, Central Connecticut Lab. Club, and some others.

Other countries include; Australia, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Germany, France, Ireland, South Africa, Spain, Luxembourg, Denmark, Holland.

We are now retired and living on the West Coast of Scotland in a most beautiful position with just 2 adult bitches and a new puppy keeping us occupied, attending just a few Championship Shows giving us some pleasure, meeting old friends and competing still at the top level.
We look forward to judging in your country, and we are sure we will see some nice Labradors and as always meet some wonderful Labrador owners.

Jim and Elise Nolan

Denise Jury (GB) - Kennel TORWOOD

I bought my first Flatcoat in 1966 and have never been without them since. I bred two litters and acquired the ‘Torwood’ prefix with my husband, and now own it with my youngest daughter, Rachel.

I have bred Ch Show and Field Trial winning stock and Rachel and I aim to continue with the lines we have found so successful and easy to train in the past.
Temperament is one of the main features of my breeding program for both Flatcoats and Dachshunds of which I also run a pack of ten hounds.

I am a member of the F/C’s show committee and Working Secretary for NEFRA as well as being on a few other committees to fill my time when I am not judging around the world.

I am looking forward to judging your beautiful dogs in Austria and seeing a little of the wonderful scenery around Innsbruck.

Denise Jury
